Computational Condensed Matter Physics Group
Welcome to the website of our research group "Computational Condensed Matter Physics (CCMP)" at the Department of Physics, Jashore University of Science and Technology. In CCMP Group we build theoretical models of condensed matter systems and study their properties and phenomena using computer simulation. Our current interests mainly lie in using first-principles-based techniques to
- design and study semiconducting and antiferroelectric materials
- study structural properties of carbon-based 2D materials
- understand and explore the properties of materials related to their topology.
In our research we perform Dansity Functional Theory (DFT) based calculations using WIEN2k simulation packages.
Materials Theory, Computation and Design
We seek to understand the underlying structure of a material, its electronic, magnetic and optical properties and its performance in applications. Advancement in computing power and software enable us to create "virtual laboratories," where materials are designed, synthesized, characterized and tested computationally. These capabilities drastically reduce the cost, time and predict properties of new materials for a wide range of applications.
Graphene-Based Sensor
Sensing gases that are recognized to contribute to the global warming through the greenhouse effect, cause acid rain and photochemical smog, etc. are of a great interest. Graphene is an ideal material for sensors. Ultra-sensitive sensors made from graphene could detect minute dangerous particles helping to protect potentially dangerous environments. The involvement of graphene to develop sensors is attributed to some of the distinct advantages like the large surface-to-volume ratio, unique optical properties, excellent carrier mobility and exceptional electrical and thermal properties compared to the other allotropes of carbon. Our aim is to develop new, more efficient graphene-based sensor by enhancing the gas adsorption process on the graphene layer.
